American dancer, and their governess were killed in an automobile accident.- just outside the walls of Paris today. Their automobile left the bridge ;over the Seine and plunged into the river, carrying all the occupants, including the chauffeur, with the. four the driver was the only one to escape death. The accident took place in Levallers-Perret. The children were Patrick, aged 6, and Beatrice, aged r4. With their \'governess, Annie Sim, they were journeying: in a hired car« to Versailles, where Miss Duncan had rented an apartment in a hotel. The car had just left the Duncan residence in Neuilly when the accident occurred. The speed of the automobile carried: it; into the - middle of a small arm of the Seine. Two watermen immediately, plunged in an attempt to rescue the occupants of the car. Firemen also hastened to the scene, but all efforts were in vain. The bodies of the two children lie In the American hospital. The mother has not been allowed to approach them. Miss Duncan, San; Franciscan- Miss Isadora Duncan; or, as she Is entitled to be known in*private* life, Mrs Gordon Craig, was a native of San Francisco and was reared in Oakland. She is the daughter, of Joseph C. Duncan, a California pioneer, who was known in early, days of California as a dramatic reader and collector of objects of art. Her mother was Dorah Gray Duncan. Miss Duncan\'s brother, Raymond Duncan, is a student:of Greek customs arid carried his “studies» into his daily life, subsisting on nuts and wearing a Greek costume public.Miss Duncan has retained her early day friendships, and has made intimate friends *in this city and Oakland. It *. was planned to have her appear in her interpretive dances at the Greek theater, Berkeley, during her last American tour, but: she was unable to fulfil ,the engagement. Miss Duncan was- secretly- married in September,1905, at Frankfort on the Main, Germany, to Gordon Craig; the son of Ellen Terry. Craig is famous as a dramatist and the originator of a \'new, technique in the scenic production of \' plays. The eldest of her two children .was born in.Holland the following year.
